These beautifully designed nature-themed boards with tactile, recessed pathways offer an absorbing way for children to find a place of calm. Meet the Slow Snail, Friendly Fish, Cheerful Sunflower, and Gentle Butterfly! Carefully designed with curved sides for little hands to hold, children will benefit from the soothing, tactile feedback as they slowly trace their fingers along the trails. These rhythmic, repetitive movements help to interrupt stress responses, promote self-regulation and restore emotional wellbeing.

Encouraging focused breathing combined with tracing the paths aids in calming the mind and body, making these boards an effective strategy for reducing sensory overwhelm and supporting mindfulness. Perfect for use in calm corners or relaxation spaces, they also support pre-writing experiences, building fine motor control through gentle, guided play.

We have absolutely loved using these sensory calming trails in our classroom 🤍 They’ve become a really valued part of our calm provision, especially for our children who need that extra support with regulation. The children are naturally drawn to them and there’s something so soothing about the repetitive tracing — it really helps them to slow down, focus and feel more in control of their bodies and emotions.

For some of our children with SEND, particularly those who can become easily overwhelmed or dysregulated, these have been a gentle and accessible way to support co-regulation and independent calming strategies. We’ve noticed children beginning to choose them independently when they need a moment, which has been so lovely to see. They provide that quiet, low-demand support without adding pressure, which is exactly what so many of our children need.

I also love how they support those early fine motor and pre-writing skills in such a natural, purposeful way. The quality is beautiful and they feel really durable for everyday classroom use. They’ve slotted seamlessly into our provision and are definitely one of those resources we reach for again and again.
Such a simple idea but so impactful — I would highly recommend for any EYFS or SEND setting looking to support emotional regulation in a calm, child-led way 🤍
