How to add digital photos into Promethean ActivInspire

“I’ve taken some great photos of the children in my setting, which I want to display on my interactive whiteboard. How do I add them into Promethean ActivInspire?”

Promethean ActivInspire allows you to easily insert images taken on a digital camera – all you need to do is follow these step-by-step instructions:

Step 1: Save your photos

Attach your camera to your computer – this is usually a USB cable. Save the photos in a new folder, somewhere that will be easy to find (e.g. in your Documents or Pictures folder).

Step 2: Add your photos to the Resource Library

Go to the folder in which you added a new folder with your photos saved in it. Right-click on the folder, and click on Copy – or on a Mac, click on the folder, then hold down the apple key on your keyboard and press ‘C’.

Now go to My Documents and double-click on the folder called Activ Software, then double-click on the folder ActivInspire, then double-click on My Resources. You can find this on a Mac by going to Users, then your username folder, then Activ Software, then My Resources.

Right-click in the folder, then click on Paste – or on a Mac hold down the apple key and press ‘V’. Your folder of photos should appear in the folder.

The photos are now saved in the Resource Library in ActivInspire, ready for you to use them whenever you need to. (If you find that you can’t access the photos saved in this folder from ActivInspire, you may need to save them in the folder in Documents called Activstudio or Activprimary.)

Step 3: Insert photos onto a page

To add photos to your Flipchart, open ActivInspire and click on the Resource Browser button in the toolbox at the side.

Click on the Resource Locations arrow button at the bottom, then on the My Resources button at the top of the box.

You should now see your folder of images in the box below – click on it, and your photos will be visible in the tray at the bottom of the screen.

Double-click on a photo to insert it onto the Flipchart page.

Step 4: Resize a photo

Don’t worry if your photo appears very large on the page!

To resize it, select it by clicking on it once, then drag the yellow circle in the bottom right hand corner until the photo is the size you want.

You can then drag it to where you want it on the page.

Step 5: Rotate a photo

If your photo appears on its side, you can easily rotate it so it’s the right way up.

Click on the photo, then drag the Rotate Object button in the tools above it around, until the photo is the right way up.

Now your photos are ready for you to annotate, create sorting or matching activities, or simply display for discussion with the children. Have fun!
